January 6, 1945:
The Soviets liberated Budapest, freeing over 80,000 Jews.

January 17, 1945:
Liberation of Warsaw by the Soviet troops.

January 18, 1945:
The Nazis evacuated Auschwitz. Death Marches for the surviving Jews began.

January 27, 1945:
The Soviets liberated Auschwitz. More than 2,000,000 were murdered here.

April 23, 1945:
Soviet troops reached Berlin.

April 30, 1945:
Hitler committed suicide in his bunker.

May 8, 1945:
Germany surrendered. The Third Reich - and the Holocaust - ended. Estimated 6,000,000 Jews killed, 63% of the initial Jewish Population of Europe.

May 23, 1945:
SS Reichsführer Himmler committed suicide.

September 2, 1945:
Japan surrendered. End of World War 2.

November 20, 1945:
Opening of the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal.
